Alzheimer’s feels like death only the physical body is still there. Watching a loved one suffer with Alzheimer’s is horrible. My dad was a very strong man, he could do, would do and did do whatever he pleased. Watching him become weaker and scared was hard to watch. The man that was once my protector now needed to be protected.
For my own Mother watching her Mother (my Grandmother) cry and beg for her children to take her home when her house had long since been sold. My grandmother put up a terrible fuss when they sold her house and she moved into with my Mom. She lived with my Mother for a couple of years and then they had to put her in a retirement home because they were afraid something would happen to her when my Mom went to work.
That is why my children and I will be participating in the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk. It’s an easy walk usually 2-3 miles, our local one is at a beautiful park and it is 2.5 miles long. It is a great way to spend time with my children outside, get exercises and it is all for a worth cause. I want a solution to Alzheimer’s before it ever gets a chance to touch my Mom or my Father-in-law. There are walks available in over 600 communities. Find your local one and spend some time taking a walk to help fight against Alzheimer’s.
