My daughter’s school is divided into teams in each hallway. All of their classes other than electives are located in one hall and in each hall there are four teams. Each team was supposed to come up with some type of community service they would complete by the end of the year. They talked about all kinds of things, but really nothing was moving forward towards anything.

Well, the local radio station is running a promotion where they want classes to make valentines cards for the soldiers. They will send them the valentines from all the kids but the class that makes the most, get a pizza party and the radio station will do their morning show from the classes room. So I suggested she talk to her advisory teacher about it. Even if they don’t win it is still a really good cause as far as I am concerned.

They teacher went for it and we’ve been making cards for the past week. My husband and I will deliver the cards to the radio station on the 31st and they will mail them out no later than the 2nd. I think it is a really groovy idea and I’m glad we got to be the ones to present it. :)

Makes you think and wonder what could have been….

Last night my husband and I were watching the news and was a story about a military man found dead on the side of a road we drive often. When we first saw the picture of the location, I knew instantly where it was. The news report went into further detail, saying a gun was nearby and his car was there as well. Sounds hinky. Then they said, he was on pre-deployment and was home visiting family, before shipping out.

I wondered what I would have done if I had driven down this road and seen this body slumped on the side of the road. Would I have noticed it or just driven by? Would I have turned around to make sure, would I have called 911? I probably would have turned around, no I know I would have but I wouldn’t have stopped.

They don’t know if it was suicide or murder yet. It is creepy and a little scary to think he might have been killed by someone that close to my house (10 miles probably). I’d also be very creepy if he committed suicide that close to my house.

Not too long after we moved here we saw a couple of police cars driving all over the neighborhood. It was late probably midnight… the a police chick came to our door and asked if we’d seen or heard anything out of the ordinary earlier in the day. Come to find out a single older man had killed himself about 7 houses away from our house and they were getting all their facts straight.

Shorty before I had my daughter we lived in this blue two story house. It was our first house (my husband counts our first house and the tiny single wide pink trailer we bought two days after we got married). Next door to us was a small apartment building with maybe 6 apartments in it. We had several different couples that fought through the years. I’d could hear the fighting if I stood in the bathtub downstairs with the window open, but I couldn’t see a thing. But I had a perfect view of the entrance of the building when I looked out my bedroom window upstairs but I could hear it. Yes, sad I know.

One night I was upstairs sleeping because I had to work early the next day, my husband was downstairs playing a game if I recall. Next thing I hear was screaming and fighting, then BANG and a woman screaming help me help me please help me, help me please. Part of me thought I had been dreaming but I ran down the stairs and asked my husband if he’d heard anything. Downstairs I couldn’t hear any screaming and he hadn’t heard anything. I went back upstairs to go back to sleep but once at the top I could hear sirens and this girl just kept screaming, somebody help me, please… I watched through the window upstairs, transfixed to that spot. I’d run downstairs and stand in the bathtub to see if I could hear if the person was alive or not…

Twenty minutes later, the ambulance drove away without any sirens or lights. The young man had killed himself and I was less than a football field away. I couldn’t sleep, I kept hearing her voice screaming. The next morning when I left for work I drove past the spot he’d shot himself. I didn’t want to look but I did anyway…

Makes you wonder, what could I have done. What could we as a society could we have done?

That young man shot himself that night because he was stupid, he was angry at his girlfriend and he told her if she didn’t leave him alone he’d kill himself. When she didn’t he shot himself right in front of her.

The older man down the street, had recently lost his wife and his job. He was about to lose his house and he felt he had no one left.

My Mom has a good friend, he has several health issues, but you’d never know it. He recently found out he will probably lose his sight in less than a year. He is a business owner and does most of the work himself. He is basically an all around contractor. He can do just about anything, from roofing to add-ons. So driving is a huge part of his life. He told my Mom it’d be a cold day in hell before he had other people driving him around and he’d disappear first. My Mom is rightfully concerned and she questioned him but got no answer really. I know my Mom, she’ll get after him until he gets help.

So now that I’ve gone down memory lane of all the suicides I’ve been around and gotten morbid I think I’ll say Good-night.

Thousands Mash Through Boise Mall Doors

smashcrowd.jpgDoors were broken, and shoppers were scraped and bruised as thousands surged through the Boise Towne Square Mall in Boise, Idaho at 1am this morning. Raw video shot by KTVB shows rampage hordes trying to squeeze themselves through just two doors at one mall entrance. It appears that some of the doors swung outward and it was impossible to open them with the crush of consumers pushed up against the glass.

Lost wallet found after 55 years

Two classic car collectors from the US state of Idaho found the wallet after it fell out of the back of a vintage car they were planning to restore.
After an internet search they found and contacted the owner, Glenn Goodlove.
“If it was in my sailor-mentality years, I might have attempted to, as they said in those years, ‘make out,”‘ Mr Goodlove told the Idaho Twin Falls Times-News.

“Like a couple of kids, we thought we had a goldmine,” Mr Beck said.
Instead, they found some small change - the leather wallet held a $10 bill, Mr Goodlove’s military ID, his Social Security card, his driver’s licence and several jewellery receipts from 1952. But they were all in the name of Glenn Putnam.

After searching online, Mr Beck discovered that Mr Putnam had since changed his name to Glenn Goodlove and moved to San Diego, California.
“There was a silence for about 15 seconds,” Mr Beck told the Twin Falls Times-News. “Then he said, ‘Who is this?”‘

This is a story that’s has old and classic as time itself: boy loses weed, boy calls police to report his stolen weed, police meet boy, police find some of weed at his house, police and boy fall in love.

According to the Associated Press, a man was arrested after reporting someone stole his marijuana and police found some of the stolen stash in his home.
The man reportedly told police two masked gunman stole 150 pounds of his marijuana. Police have been combing the Baskin-Robbins for their whereabouts ever since.
Police arrived and found approximately 15 pounds of leftover marijuana on the floor. He reportedly told police the drugs were his, which a police officer told the AP was “not the smartest move.” If you’ve got 150 pounds of marijuana at your disposal, smart and move aren’t in your vocabulary to begin with.

This story was even in my Enquirer. I’m sorry but no job is worth fighting for like that.

The long-standing rivalry between Coke and Pepsi took a physical turn Friday when a Pepsi deliveryman allegedly punched his Coke counterpart in the face at a western Pennsylvania Wal-Mart, state police said.
The two deliverymen were “apparently bickering back and forth” while unloading their wares at the Indiana County store, police said. When the Coke deliveryman left the store, his counterpart allegedly punched him in the face three times, breaking his nose and giving him a black eye, police said.
No charges have been filed, but police characterized the incident as a misdemeanor simple assault.

That is where iFloor is different. Check them out I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Go right now and you can enter to win a free Karastan area rug! Also no interest until Spring 2008

Press Release:
iFLOOR, America’s largest online flooring retailer, today announced a $1,000,000 limited warranty designed to protect its customers from predatory manufacturer policies that exclude warranty coverage from online purchases.

The policy, which goes into effect immediately, offers up to one million dollars of coverage in the event that a customer’s warranty claim is denied specifically because they made their purchase online. It is complimentary for every iFLOOR customer, and protects the buyer under the same terms as the original product warranty.

iFLOOR, Inc. CEO, Steve Simonson, came up with the program to combat “scare tactics” used by manufacturers of hardwood floors and laminate flooring. “Their idea is to discourage you from buying at a discount!” wrote Simonson in his blog “It’s About Flooring”. “This is not right! You deserve to save money! So we’re going to take care of this problem once and for all.”

And it would appear that federal law is on his side. Section 108 of the 1975 Magnuson-Moss Act, states that, “In general, tie-in sales provisions are not allowed. Such a provision would require a purchaser of the warranted product to buy an item or service from a particular company to use with the warranted product in order to be eligible to receive a remedy under the warranty.”

Under iFLOOR’s new warranty, a key provision allows for iFLOOR to “seek justice” on behalf of the customer in the event of legal action. According to Simonson, “I’m putting iFLOOR’s money where my mouth is.”
